Exercise Bike versus Spin Bike

An exercise bicycle is a stationary bicycle used as exercise equipment mostly frequently in homes. There are two main types of exercise bikes: the upright bikes and the recumbent bikes.

A spin bike on the other hand more resembles a racing bike, and is typically a special-purpose exercise machine, used by tri-athletes, cyclists and those exercise enthusiast looking for a more intense workout.

Spin bikes are also used by racing cyclists for warm-up prior to the racing or as a training option when you cannot train outdoors due to bad weather.

Special exercise programs emerged in the 80’s that were geared around spin bikes and exercising in a group setting, together with music, and instructions announced over a PA system.

Spin bike classes developed and are now popular in most gyms around the world as a high intensity workout aimed at burning calories and increasing fitness levels.

Because spin bikes are used for low-impact cardiovascular exercises, the use of spin bikes is extremely safe, effective and due to low-impact, has minimal stress on joints.

Some people feel more comfortable exercising at home – it can be convenient and more effective in terms of utilizing time available for exercise.

In general, standard exercise bikes are useful for initial exercise however for high output exercise and achieving maximum calorie burn, a spin bike cannot be beaten.
